Petra Accommodation FAQ
Booking Information
Due to our accommodation being dog-friendly, there are a few steps to making a booking at Petra.
- Send us an enquiry for your proposed dates HERE. We aim to reply to accommodation enquires within 24-48 hours.
- You will receive an Email Reply that includes date availability, rates and a link to our Booking Request Form
- Use the Booking Request Form to secure your booking with your credit card details (VISA and Mastercard only)

- Phone bookings for accommodation are not currently available

- Your data security is of the highest priority. We use leading payment gateway CBA eWAY to ensure protection of your cardholder data.
Petra is a family owned and operated estate, and we are focused on ensuring guests enjoy the highest standards. We are currently investigating more user-friendly online booking systems that will allow us to continue to offer attractive Accommodation Rates and maintain the highest online security standards. Some peak period availability is advertised on our Rates Table from time to time.

Arrival and Departure
Check-in is anytime from 2pm onwards via self check-in. Please refer to your Booking Confirmation email for check-in instructions.
Check-out is 10am (penalties may apply for late check-out)
- There is no check-in reception desk at Petra. Accommodation is accessed via self-check-in from 2pm onwards.
- Ensure you have your Booking Confirmation email at hand, as it contains the following information you need for your arrival at Petra:
- Directions to the property and your chalet
- The Door Entry Key Code and chalet entry instructions
- Please note: If you make a mistake using your door entry key code 3 times, the door will automatically lock for 5 minutes (anti-theft mechanism). You can try again after 5 minutes.
- Please note, you need to press # (not *) after entering your entry code.
- Please check your spam/junk folder if you cannot find your Booking Confirmation email in your inbox.
- Our normal check-in time is 2pm onwards and check-out time is 10am.
- Early check-in &/or Late check-out may be possible on request, at least one week in advance.
- Where it is possible, the price is $30 per extra hour for Standard Rate Bookings (up to a maximum of two hours). Pricing may differ for peak periods.
- Note: we may not be able to confirm alterations to check-in or check-out ahead of time, as it is subject to other bookings and cleaner availability.
You can arrive and check in to your chalet at any time from 2pm onwards. Please ensure you have your Booking Confirmation email handy, prior to your arrival, as this includes for all the information you need for your arrival at Petra.

- Petra is unable to organise/book taxi's or car hire for you (as we are not a hotel), but we hope this information helps with your plans/arrangements.
Guest Information
Petra Chalets are designed and licensed as Couples Accommodation. Each chalet sleeps two people in either a queen or king bed.
It is possible to book for a third guest per chalet.
- Either:
- one adult; or
- one child aged over 5 years (able to swim); or
- one infant (aged under 9 months; pre-mobility). Note: infants count as guests. Free of charge. Please bring your own portacot / equivalent.
- For a third guest (aged 5years+; able to swim) staying in one chalet, the price is $65 per night, which includes a foldable bed made up with fresh linen and extra towel provided. Request and booking must be made on your Booking form. Please refer to our Third Guest / Child/Infant Policy.
- Foldabed details:
- Maximum weight is 85kg
- Maximum of one per chalet
- Mattress is thinner than a regular mattress
- There are only two foldabeds available at the property
- Chalets are open plan/studio in style, so it is a shared space
- We are required to provide beds for all booked guests in accordance with our accommodation licensing, so third guest reservation is required
- Guests are not permitted to sleep on the floor or couch, or bring their own foldabed or camping mattress
- There are no twin beds or family accommodation chalets at Petra
- We cannot accommodate infants/children/toddlers aged from 9 months up to 5 years, due to unfenced dams on the property
- Please be honest about the number of guests, as access to your accommodation may be revoked if there are unapproved guests due to our accommodation licensing and rainwater tank supply
Petra Chalets are licensed, designed and priced for couples (up to two people), with a maximum of three guests per chalet only. Please consider the following information:
- All individuals, including infants and children, are regarded as guests.
- For a third guest (aged 5years+; able to swim), a foldabed booking ($65/night) is required. Foldabed will be made up with fresh linen & towels.
- For infants (under 9 months) guests must provide their own portacot/equivalent
- Maximum of one foldabed per chalet
- Petra management reserves the right to revoke accommodation if guest numbers exceed the maximum allowed
- Please note all our chalets are 'studio/open plan' layout
- A infant or a child is counted as one guest
- Please see above question regarding family accommodation for details
- Infants/children between the age of 9 months and 5 years are not permitted to stay at Petra as there are unfenced dams on the property.
- Entertaining at Petra chalets is not generally permitted, however;
- If you wish to entertain outside visitors at your chalet, please contact us in advance to discuss. In particular, you must inform us if your intended visitors include any children
- Approval for visitors must be obtained prior to arrival
- Approval is at management discretion and may incur additional costs
- Outside visitors are not permitted to stay onsite overnight under any circumstances
- Guests come to Petra to enjoy quiet and relaxation so we ask you to please be considerate and respectful in terms of noise levels, child supervision, parking, dog management, and our property

Chalet Provisions
Petra Chalets are self-contained; with kitchenette, dining/living space, bedroom, ensuite bathroom and BBQ area. Inclusions:
- cooktop
- microwave
- fridge
- small benchtop oven (located in kitchen cupboard),
- toaster and kettle,
- BBQ
- TV and DVD
- hair dryer, iron and ironing board,
- cutlery, crockery, utensils for basic cooking
- Complimentary items provided for arrival: tea, coffee, uht milk, Petra Olive Oil soap, mini shampoo & conditioner
- Please NOTE: complementary items are not replaced during your stay
- Our products are available for purchase: Petra Farm Shop or Shop Online
- We do not provide Petra Olive Oil in the chalets
- Should you wish to try or buy some of Petra Olive Oil’s amazing produce, please visit our Petra Farm Shop or Shop Online
- Salt and pepper is provided in all chalets. Please leave them for future guests to use.
- Full fresh linen and towels are provided in every chalet
- Tea towels and cleaning cloths are provided in every chalet
- Beach towels are not provided
- Dog towels and dog bedding is not provided: please bring your own
- Housekeeping services are not available
- For stays of 7+ nights, a fresh bag of linen & towels will be delivered to your chalet
- Duvet/doonas are high quality and hypoallergenic
- An extra blanket is provided in each chalet (for human use only, not for dogs)
- Please refrain from eating/drinking in bed. Extra charges will be incurred for stain removal or replacement will incur an additional charge
- Please hang towels, tea towels & cloths to dry. Please do not leave on the floor or folded up. Damage due to mould will incur an additional charge.
- In addition to towel rails, a clothes drying rack is provided in each chalet
All chalets have dishwashing detergent, general purpose spray, sponge, broom and dustpan.
We do not currently offer WIFI; however, we are looking a options to make WIFI available in the chalets at some point in future. Personal hotspot and mobile broadband both work well at Petra.
Yes - all chalets come with a BBQ and outdoor table and chairs.
- Petra Chalets have reverse cycle air conditioning and heating, which can be set to your desired temperature (instructions provided in each chalet)
- Please use responsibly and turn off the unit when you go out to for environmental reasons but also for financial cost; helping us to keep our rates reasonable
- A blanket is provided in each chalet (for human use only, not for dogs)
- Please bring an extra blanket in winter if you are concerned about cold weather
- There are no fireplaces at Petra and the lighting of any kind of fire on the property is not permitted.
- No. Currently there is an end of stay cleaning surcharge in place due to significant cost increases for cleaning services in the region [$50 per Queen Chalet / $60 per King Chalet].

- Please NOTE: higher surcharge rates may apply for peak periods/public holidays. We will however, advise if the above differs, prior to your booking.
- Please help us keep our accommodation rates and charges to a minimum by leaving your chalet as clean as possible.
$75 additional surcharge applies for Xmas Day, Boxing Day, NY Day and Public Holiday Check-in / Check-out dates in the Xmas Rate period. Note: Xmas Day & Boxing Day may not be available for check-in/check-out.
- We are not able to provide cleaning or turndown services
- It may be possible to arrange cleaning for stays of 7+ nights. Advanced notice is required to confirm cleaner availability & cost.
- For stays of 7+ nights, extra linen & towels will be provided in your chalet

We are unable to provide laundry facilities, as we operate on rainwater tanks. There is a launderette located in Dunsborough.
We are unable to provide portacots or highchairs.
- There are no spas or spa baths at Petra - we operate on rainwater tanks
- All chalets have shower facilities so you can enjoy the lovely experience of showering in fresh rainwater
- Kalamata King Unit 4 has a regular bath
- Smoking is not permitted inside the chalets
- Please smoke outside only and dispose of butts thoughtfully. Never throw cigarette butts on the ground anywhere on the property - it is a bushfire hazard.
- There is no EV charging station at Petra.
- Charging superchargers is not permissible at Petra - it presents a serious risk of power outages for all chalets.

Prices & Rates

- As Petra Accommodation Guests generally come to Petra for a quiet, relaxing holiday break, we ask that you please be considerate and respectful, in terms of noise, parking, dog management, cleaning, damage, etc.
- Any non-guest entertaining must be approved by Petra Management prior to arrival of any visitors to your chalet.
- Approval is entirely at management discretion and may incur additional costs depending on what you would like to arrange. If you wish to entertain ‘non-staying visitors’ at your chalet, please contact us to discuss. In particular, please advise if your intended visitors include any children (given the 3 unfenced dams on our property).
- Please note that ‘non-staying visitors’ are not permitted to stay overnight under any circumstances.
Cancellation & Transfer Booking Options

- Please email us with your request, including details of why you are seeking to cancel or transfer your booking.
- We will always do our best to help, however the T&Cs do apply. We will try to consider extenuating circumstances (eg. health/medical certificates).

- Dunsborough is approximately a 10-minute drive from Petra and has a Coles, an IGA, bottle shops and many other stores.

- Breakfast is not provided at Petra.

Amenities & Attractions
- The closest shops are in Dunsborough town, which is approximately a 10-minute drive. There is a Coles, IGA, several bottle shops, boutiques, bars and cafes.
- Caves House General Store and Bottle Shop is also nearby, in Yallingup
- Larger townships of Busselton and Margaret River are approximately 30-minutes drive North and South respectively.
- Petra Estate is surrounded by many excellent cafes, restaurants, wineries and breweries. You can find comprehensive lists of places to eat below:

- So many things! Petra Estate is located in the gourmet food & wine region of South-West WA, Australia. Visit local wineries, food businesses, pristine beaches etc etc
- Enjoy wandering through the Petra Estate olive groves, or simply enjoy the lovely views of the property from the comfort of your chalet, including kangaroo, duck and bird watching
- Visit Petra Farm Shop on the Estate to try and buy our premium Extra Virgin Olive Oils; gourmet produce, EVOO skincare & haircare .
- Create your own combination of Petra olives, feta, dips & spreads to enjoy as an antipasto delight at your chalet. Collect on your way home (after winery touring) or to enjoy as an outdoor picnic at the Farm Shop
- Please note: Petra Farm Shop may only be open limited hours at present, however, as a valued guest please feel free to email us or call us and, if we’re able, we will open just for you. Advanced notice is helpful.

Dogs
- Yes, Petra is dog-friendly for calm, well-trained/socialised dogs with confident, experienced, responsible dog owners
- Dogs must be aged 1yr+; desexed and vaccinated; well socialised with good recall; properly toilet trained; sleep in own bed (need to bring dog bedding; not allowed on couches or beds); not nervous/fear aggressive
- Petra is a 30-acre property with lovely areas for you to walk with your dog. However, please note that there is no fencing on the property, and there may be other dogs staying at Petra during your stay, who could be on/off leash. Petra is like an 'off-leash' park environment.
- We have an abundance of wildlife on the property, including kangaroos, goannas, ducks and other birds. Please do not allow your dog to chase the wildlife. Please avoid bushy/reedy areas in warmer months (snakes).
- All dogs need to be approved by Petra Management at the time of booking
- If you have two dogs, please provide details on the Accommodation Enquiry Form. Approval of two dogs is dependent on other bookings.
- Attentive supervision of dog/s is required at all times. Please read our Dog Policy in Terms & Conditions carefully.
- We love dogs; hence we love offering quality dog-friendly accommodation. However, the environment at Petra does not suit all dogs/dog owners. Please only proceed with dog bookings, if you are 100% confident that Petra will work for you and your dog.
- Dogs must be 1yo+, desexed, vaccinated; house-trained; socialised/familiar with off-leash parks.

- There is normally a maximum of one dog per chalet ($25 per dog per night)
- It may be possible to bring two dogs with prior approval, which depends on the dog’s details and other guests/dogs booked for the same time
- Please refer to our Dog Policy in Terms & Conditions
- Attentive supervision of dog/s is required at all times
- A maximum of 5 dogs in total is allowed at Petra at one time
- No more than two dogs are allowed per chalet
- Although we are dog-friendly (and we love dogs), guests are required to take their dogs with them when they go out, and not leave them locked in the chalet
- There is no outdoor enclosure for dogs
- Note: there is a lot of wildlife , so only unleash your dog if you have good recall with them, and they won't chase wildlife
- We recommend that you remain outside with your dog when you first arrive, to avoid any potential 'accidents' inside the chalet
- Barking can be an issue. Sadly, we have had a number of bad experiences in the past, so we need to apply strict rules about barking to ensure all guests have an enjoyable stay at Petra.
- Note: you can arrange for a trustworthy dog sitter to mind your dog whilst you are out. Any damage/theft etc, is your/guests' responsibility. Please see T&Cs Here
- Dogs are not permitted to sleep on the furniture
- Guests are requested to bring their own dog bedding and dog towels
- Additional charges may be incurred if extra cleaning is required after your stay
- Please help us ensure we can continue to provide our high quality accommodation for all our guests

- At your own risk, you/your dog can swim in our dams
- Please note: Do not put your head underwater as it presents a health risk
- The closest vet clinic is in Dunsborough, approximately a 10-minute drive

- Other pets, such as cats, rabbits, or guinea pigs, are not permitted
- We may be able to accept a bird. Please contact us to discuss.
Miscellaneous
- In warmer months, snakes can appear on very rare occasions
- It is advisable to keep dogs away from un-landscaped bush/long grass areas, including areas arounds dams
- Note: there has never been a snake bite in 20+ years of operation.
- In the rare event of a power outage, you can monitor Western Power advice HERE. Please be assured that we will be doing the same.
- There are 2 x small battery-operated light lamps under your kitchen sink to assist during a power outage.
- Note: Tap water won’t work and toilets won’t refill during a power outage. We suggest not flushing the toilet unless absolutely necessary. There will only be one flush available during a power outage. If you require additional water urgently, please let us know, and we will do our best to assist.
- Note: Western Power’s advice is generally conservative in terms of the length of the outage. Power normally returns faster than communicated.
- Power outages are usually caused by weather-related events, such as power lines down due to storm. Petra management is not responsible nor liable for power outages.
- If maintenance is scheduled to take place that requires a power outage, we will pre-arrange the supply of a generator.

Petra accepts no responsibility for items left behind, so please check carefully before you leave.
If you have 'left items' behind and you wish they be returned to you, possible options are :
- we can arrange for collection from Petra Farm Shop Yallingup > we would just need to confirm the name of the 'collector' and arrival/collection time to ensure your item/s are ready to collect. Note: Petra Farm Shop Yallingup Opening Hours are listed here.
- put through a Shop Online order on our website, and use the ORDER NOTES FIELD (important) to say that you would like your item/s returned alongwith your Shop Online Order. Please include reference to your Booking Name/Date/Unit #
- post your "left item" > $50 cost including postage & handling (within Australia)
> this option is only available if we can use the current credit card attached to your booking for this option
> this option allows for one post office visit without queuing twice. - For international postage, you would need to make your own arrangements.
- Please email us including detailed information regarding your lost property, and your preference regarding the options above. We will endeavour to help as best we can, but we are not able to provide additional services, sorry.
